With support from the National Science Foundation, IBM, and Intel, the Understanding Teaching project produced an interactive professional development seminar distributed online. Employing an exciting multimedia approach with flash animation, audio, complex student database, and full-motion video, this program expertly instructs math educators on how to apply the Professional Standards for Teaching Mathematics prescribed by the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM).

Because Understanding Teaching incorporates a natural interface that situates the learner in a real-world instructional environment, users are able to actively explore and learn the concepts. The focus and intent of the program will benefit school administrators, professional development coordinators, technology coordinators, college instructors, and education administrators involved in teacher training. Understanding Teaching provides first-hand, observational experience that helps educators recognize, understand, and implement the NCTM Professional Standards for Teaching Mathematics.
